A Visual method for work planning & team engagement

GoalScoping is a visual method to scope out the goals and then tasks for complex work. It engages the whole team, enables autonomy and promotes self-management. Run as a facilitated workshop, GoalScoping keeps everyone focused on the goals and tasks that matter:

  • Break goals down, add tasks and build Work Breakdown Structures
  • Engage all stakeholders, team members, and external people
  • Dramatically improve bottom-up effort estimation
  • Instantly show interdependencies, workstreams, and task priorities

Course outcomes

  • Ability to visualise goals and break those down incrementally — while maintaining core focus
  • Group work according to goals and instantly see dependencies across people and workstreams
  • Motivate the team by offering autonomy on the ‘how’ while staying focused on the ‘why’

People this course is aimed at

  • Program/project managers initiating work with wider teams
  • Leading a team to focus on smaller goals that ripple outwards
  • SLT members running sessions to build top-down strategies
  • Leaders visually connecting large numbers of tasks to tiers of goals
  • Leaders building autonomy while maintaining clear direction

Course Outline

The course focuses on whiteboards, large flip-charts, being visual and interactive. It is run the same way it would be used — with high engagement and a lot of hands-on work.

  • Practical real-life examples throughout
  • Five case studies to reference
  • Four scenarios to practice with
  • Ideally bring your own project to work on
