Time 1
Time Management Essential Tools & Techniques
People & Time: Our Most Valuable Assets
BCL offers two levels of Time Management training. This first level is a set of tools that can apply to any time-sensitive situation. For any person. It’s a great idea to explore these ‘quick wins’ first before investing your valuable time in deeper training.
The problem tends not to be in time management. In this course you’ll understand six problems, and six solutions. Mixing and matching these allows up to 36 approaches to save — ultimately — time at work. Which then has many feel-good ripple effects.
The next level of this course is called Time 2, available here Getting the foundations right though is highly recommended. This Time 1 course offers an excellent return on the investment of your time. In fact, you’ll be shown how to measure your improvement.
Hands-on workshops
The six problem areas are presented in combinations in realistic scenarios. Because the real world is not textbook!
Participants choose which tools and techniques to apply to each part of the scenario, solving the problems together.
BCL uses four distinct work scenarios, but can adapt these to your own situation to make the workshops real.
Outcomes
Here are a few of the outcomes:
Learn the difference between capacity, competency and capability. Then discuss with your team lead constructively
Manage expectations realistically. Learn to pause and ask questions before agreeing to unrealistic work
Techniques to grow your focus, your autonomy and your ownership. The result is more control of your time
Course Delivery
The course follows a well-tested method that we’ve used for nearly a decade. As workloads have increased and time has shrunk, this method appears to be stronger than ever. Our main constraint today is human resources. Your time is precious:
You’ll be shown how to categorise your time concerns into six areas. More areas are welcome, but these seem to cover 90%+ of situations. You’ll be given a deck of six cards — in the scenarios put before you, you’ll play one or more cards (problem areas)
We’ll then work through some of the six tools and techniques to apply to the problems. In a group scenario you’ll suggest which solutions to apply, and workshop the ‘how’.
We’ll cycle this way through all the scearios, all six problem areas and all six tools/techniques. You’ll also learn how to value and measure your time.

Five Reasons Why
Whether you are self-funding, or continuing a workplace-sponsored PDP (Professional Development Plan), here are five great arguments for you — and perhaps also your line manager, capability lead or HR department — for understanding and managing these five example areas:
“Yes”
Saying ‘yes’ seems helpful, but might create overload. To manage time, ask a few more questions before ‘yes’

Distractions
The chance to ‘deep dive’ has time & quality benefits. Manage distractions to create more focus time

Meetings

Priorities
Priorities will change. We must continuously re-assess and replan. MoSCoW is a great tool to help with that
